General Santos City, or fondly called as “Gensan” is a small city at the Southernmost part of the Mindanao. Just 3 hours away from Davao City by bus, Gensan is part of the Soccksargen (Region 12) group of provinces. The place was once known as the Municipality of Dadiangas until in 1968 it was renamed as General Santos City in honor of General Paulino Santos, one of the heroes of World War 2. Probably the city is not that popular in the past, but because of Manny Pacquiao Gensan was again placed back in the world map. This is the hometown of the people’s champ. Just recently, the city was again recognized as Shamcey Supsup won 4th runner up in the Miss Universe pageant. The beauty queen is also a native of Gensan. Moreover, Gensan also takes pride in being the tuna capital of the Philippines as it is the primary supplier of tuna all over the country and its neighbouring countries.

These enormous creatures are sometimes feared because of their big size, but the truth is they are very docile and would love to play with humans. During this time the city revels in street parties which last about 3 days. And during the day of the Fiesta, you will be mesmerized in watching the street parade where all the participants will wear colorful costumes depicting flower designs and other tribal clothing as a form of thanksgiving for the season’s bountiful harvest.
