You love museums. You are dying to go to one right now, aren’t you?
Then why the devil aren’t you on a plane right now, headed to Stockholm??
Stockholm has approximately 70 museums, ranging from very large to very small, such as The Museum of Butterflies, an Army Museum, and the Museum of Dance. Below is a list of the most famous Stockholm museums.
Go to Stockholm for the Skansen Museum
Skansen is believed to be a crown jewel of Stockholm. It is the oldest open-air museum. On the territory of 300 000 ha, one can see items that represent every province in Sweden. Ancient furniture, wind mills, churches and all other possible things that have been called long time ago are presented in this museum. Scansen is a perfect place for a hike and a picnic. Walking though ancient Sweden one can try famous Swedish pancakes or even have a pint of beer.
Go to Stockholm for the Vasa Museum
The most popular museum in Scandinavia is placed in Stockholm. It is a Vasa museum, which is the oldest ship in the world. The ship was built in 1628 by the order of king Adolpho. Though, the ship swam less than 30 miles it is still a historical treasure. It was under the water for 333 years. It was lifted and carefully reconstructed and today it works as a large ship-museum. It has 3 floors and thousands of exponents that include arms, personal staff of his majesty King Adolpho, real skeletons and many more items of the XVII century.
Go to Stockholm for the National Museum
No city can exist without national museum and Stockholm is no exception. National museum of Stockholm has a large collection of XV-XVIIII century art works. Here you will find most famous works by Degas, Rembrandt, and Rubens. Museum also has a large collection of ancient Russian icons that are believed to be priceless.
Go to Stockholm for the Hallwyllska Palace
In the center of Stockholm there is a unique palace that was built in XVIIII century. The palace used to be a residence of a countess Wilhelmina von Halvyul – an heiress of one of the biggest domain the country. The palace of 2 000 square km is presented in a perfect condition. This place is a great example of the past Swedish luxury. The palace will please you with gorgeous furniture, carpets, jewelry and a large collection of Dutch art of the XVII century. There is also one of the first models of Mercedes in garage of the building and a great collection of wine.
Go to Stockholm for the Junibacken Museum
Stockholm has a wonderful place for children, which is even difficult to call a museum. This place is called Junebacken museum. A museum of fairy tales is situated in Stockholm, on the Urgorden Island. Museum has exponents that were taken from most famous Swedish fairy tale writers like Astrid Lindgren, Tove Jansson, Elsa Beskow and many more writers. In this museum kids can not only look but play with their favorite characters. Each day there is a new theatrical performance for children. There is also a restaurant and a library where each can buy best children’s books.
Go to Stockholm for the Tom Tits Experiment Museum
Tom Tit is a fictitious character. He is a hero of numerous comics, who makes different experiments. A museum of tom Tits collected and fleshed out all his experiments. Here one can try to take a ride on carousel which is made of a robot’s hand, touch human’s brain or feel microgravity. This museum would be interesting both for kids and adults.
