Update from one of our film winners, Josh Franer!

Josh Franer — Grand Prize Winner in the Film category in both 2001 and 2002 — is now out working in Hollywood for Ridley Scott and Columbia Pictures. He sent us this email to let us know about a “culture-shaping” project that he’s been working on recently…

For the past year, two friends and I have worked on a “memorial” type film for a good friend of ours who tragically passed away last November. Kyle Lake, a pastor, father, author and friend was performing a baptism and was electrocuted in front of a congregation of 800+ people. He was 33 years old.

When an event as crazy as that happens, you feel paralyzed and hopeless in a way. You realize that life is really a beautiful thing and that you only have one chance to live it. We decided that the only thing we were sort of okay at was making films, and we figured we should probably at least attempt to make a memorial film to give back to his family. Granted, we are not the best filmmakers in the world (as seen by our numerous mistakes throughout the film), but we felt that Kyle’s story shouldn’t go unnoticed.

We’ve now completed “Kyle’s Film” and there has been a nation-wide response to it. It is our hope that the film will continue to reach people and impact their lives in a positive way because life is most definitely a gift.

If you are interested in purchasing a copy of the film, go to (all the profit goes towards the Kyle Lake Memorial Fund.)
