Houston's Young MoviemakersAttention all moviemakers! Submissions are being accepted for Houston’s Young Moviemakers 2007, a juried showcase celebrating the achievements of Houston-area students who are creating work in film and video. Selected winning entries will be screened at the MFAH on Sunday, April 15, 2007, during the awards ceremony hosted by Jeffrey Gardner (KHOU-TV’s Houston ZooperStars Challenge).

Jan. 15th Moved To Feb. 21st

The event was canceled due to the severe weather forecast. We will be moving all who can to the February 21st. We will be giving the contestants listed below the first right to transfer as long as you notify us by January 31st.

1-CARL CULLEY, who was last year’s Finals is back for another shot. Carl is a junior at Klein Oak High School, currently rehearsing for their upcoming musical, Into the Woods. He has performed in over 40 productions, including Aida, Aladdin JR, and Lend Me a Tenor. Last year, he was the lead in the inaugural Mainstreet Theatre Teen Production of Les Miserables. He also recently auditioned for American Idol, and made the Top 50 out of the Houston Auditions, and auditioned in front of Paula, Randy, and Simon. Other recent accomplishments include a 1st place finish at NATS, 2nd place in Comedic acting and 4th place in Contemporary Singing at Next Rising Star Auditions, and 1st alternate status in Pre-Area Auditions for All-State Choir Contest. He has been writing music and playing piano since the age of 5. He will be singing, “Til’ You Came Into My Life”.

2-ERIN HARDY is a Junior at Cy-Creek. This will be Erin’s first attempt in the Culture Shapers Contest. She is heavily involved in her high school’s theatre and choir department. Right now she is student directing “Foxtales”, a childrens musical, while also being a member of the Comdey Sportz High School Legue. The past two years she has qualified for the International Thespian Festival in group musical and this year Duet Musical with the help of her friend Kristyn Chalker.Erin has also been a part of the TMEA All-Region Mixed Choir for the past 3 years, and has been a Pre-Area canidate for the past 2 years. She would like to thank her family, voice teacher,Wes Landry, and her best friends for all their support throughout the years. She will sing “At Last”

3-KATHLEEN CALLAGHAN is a senior at Cy Creek; she has held a love for performing ever since her elementary school years and is eager to be able to perform here. Recently, Kathleen has been seen in Nunsense (as Sister Hubert) and in Grease (as Jan). For the past two years, Kathleen has participated in national qualifying Group Musicals singing “Cell Block Tango” and “Pandemonium”. She is currently student-directing a childrens musical, “Foxtales”. Kathleen would like to put her passions to use by working with at-risk children doing social work through opening her own community theater. She is incredibly grateful for her family, friends, and for all of the love and support she has received in every aspect of her life. She will be singing “Hurt” by Christina Aguilera.

4-REBECCA BLANDA is a Junior at Cy Creek and has been doing musical theatre for over 10 years now and has performed in over 25 productions, including playing Sister Mary Leo in Nunsense, the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz, and Belle and Jasmine. Aside from theatre, she also loves to sing in the worship portion of her church’s high school Bible study. She would like to thank her family, her Playhouse 1960 family, her church family, and of course her friends for supporting her through everything. She will be singing “One Bad Habit”.

5-KIRSTEN JOHNSON is a senior at Cy-Fair High School has assisted in her schools past productions of both You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown as stage manager and Godspell. She is very excited to be doing this timeless, and close to the heart show, once again with such a wonderful, and talented group of people. She hopes greatly that everyone in the audience will benefit for Godspell’s undying message and endless charm. She has not decided her song yet

6-ROBERT ABASOLO is a Junior at Klein Forest. This is his first year in choir, but he has been in theatre since the 5th grade. This is his first year in Varsity for both theatre and choir. He is this years social coordinator for the drama dept at KF. His favorite role was recently playing Snoopy for his high school musical “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”. Recently he was in this years region choir as a Tenor 2. He plans on pursuing music after high school whether it’s musical theatre or professional guitarist. He will be performing “One Song Glory” from the musical Rent.

7-TORY TOMPKINS is a Senior at Cy Falls High School where she recently performed in the musical, Dames at Sea, in which she played the femme fatale, Mona Kent, a role which combined diva, dancer, bad girl, and slap-stick comedienne. She also played Joanne in the musical Godspell during her junior year. Tory played guitar and sang in her church band for awhile and currently continues to study guitar, keyboard, voice, and dance including tap, jazz, hip-hop and ballroom. She also studies film acting when not performing in school plays. She is currently enrolled in a film-making class and a pop singing group at Cy Fair College four afternoons a week.

8-TAYLOR MOESSINGER is a Sophomore at the Woodlands College Park campus in Conroe. Taylor has been in the recent productions “Oklahoma” at Crighton Theatre, “You’re Good Man Charlie Brown” (Lucy) at Applause Theatre, and in her school’s production of the Odyssey. She will sing “The Life of the Party” from the Wild Party.

9-JACKSON PERRIN is a Freshman at Klein Collins and has been singing and acting most of his 15 years. Two years with the Houston Boys Choir, then over thirty productions at venues such as Houston Grand Opera, TUTS, Masquerade Theatre, Main StreetTheatre, Cy-Fair College, Klein Collins HS, Playhouse 1960 and HFAC. Jackson is looking forward to this his second appearance on the Culture Shapers stage. He will be singing “Elaborate” Lives from AIDA.

10-ANTHONY CAHOON is currently a senior at College Park High School. He has been in choir since 5th grade and has been in show choir for two years. Anthony has participated in Anything Goes and is currently in Crazy for You. He is going to sing “On the Street Where You Live” from “My Fair Lady”.

11-THOMAS KROTTINGER is a Junior at Woodlands C0llege Park. He has been involed with some sort of music or theater for almost six years. He has been seen in the College Park productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Nick Bottom), Anything Goes (Sir Evelyn Oakleigh), Wings (Mr. Brownstein), The Odyssey (King Alcinous), and the soon to be performed Crazy for You (Bela Zangler). He has been given numberous awards including a UIL OAP Honorable Mention for the role of Mr. Brownstein in Wings and a Best Supporting Actor award for the same part. Thomas is heavily involved with College Park by being the Vice President of the choir department and a member of the showchoir, Rhythm-n-Blue. Thomas hopes to attend USC to earn a degree in theatre. He will be singing “If I Can’t Love Her” from the Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast.

12-REBECCA NAOMI MOYES is 15 and attends St.Thomas’ Episcopal School, Houston. She has performed in over 30 musicals on various stages around Houston with favorite roles including Erzulie (Once On This Island), Liesl (Sound of Music), Baby Louise (Gypsy), and Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady). Most recently she was thrilled to be selected to audition on Broadway for the lead role of Eponine in Les Miserables. Rebecca also writes her own lyrics and has recorded two of her own songs. Rebecca is a true “triple threat�? appearing as the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, and as the principal dancer in the productions Awakening, Stages and Fosse. She will be singing “On My Own�? from Les Miserables.

13-HANNAH MILLER who came in second place last night is the first to sign up for January. She is a Sophomore at Klein Collins High School. She loves to be involved with choir and theater. Her 1st performance was in Bye Bye Birdie at ACE Theater. She will be playing the role of Mrs. Potts in KCHS’s February production of Beauty and the Beast so come out and support it! She was 1st at NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) in the musical theater division her freshman year and was 3rd place at the September Culture Shapers and 2nd place at the December 1st competition. She is happy to have advanced past Pre-Area auditions in Novemeber and is moving on to Area, one step closer from being apart of the All-State choir. She would like to thank her mother, voice teacher Bob Collette, and best friends for helping and supporting her through all of this.

14-TONI CASSERLY who is is a sophomore at College Park High School in Conroe ISD. She is in theatre, choir, and has participated in such shows such as Anything Goes, Broadway & Old TV shows the musical, The Real Story Of The Three Little Pigs, & ect. She is going to sing Son of a Preacherman, originally preformed by Tina Turner.

Two grand prize winners will be selected at this concert. These two winners will receive a two-song recording contract! They will be premiered on the OnSeeker music page along with free advertising of the group and full profits of the downloads generated by their music. The grand prize winners will record both the songs and will video tape one of their songs in front of a green screen at Tierra Recording studios in Houston, Texas. The first runner-up will receive a cash prize of $1000.00, the second runner-up will receive a cash prize of $750.00, and the third runner-up will receive a cash prize of $500.00.

YVOH December Semi-finals

We had it all tonight! Cold weather, sore throats, cancellations, a fall and sprained ankle; and, a mix up at the end, but we did it! First place was not announced properly, but the checks were made out right. :-)
The winner of $500 and an automatic advancement to the May Finals: 1st place goes to Kristyn Chalker, a senior at Cy-Creek. Second place and $300 went to Hannah Miller, a Sophomore at Klein Collins. Third place and $200 as Brittany Thaxton, a senior at Klein. Congratulations to the other 8 contestants and especially Charlotte Byrd for braving a sprained ankle to keep on performing. :-)
We’re now taking reservations for the January 15th (Monday) semi final.
