Congratulations to ALL of our April 21st SEMIFINALISTS!

April 22, 2006 | Leave a Comment

The April 21st semifinal was perhaps the most competitive event so far, featuring 11 very talented young vocalists! Nine girls and two guys entertained the crowd at LRC in Northwest Houston, with probably the most diverse selection of music the contest has seen so far.

This SEMIFINAL was the first to feature a new format of BOTH live audience AND professional judges scoring, each counting for 50% of each contestants’ score. At the end of the event, the performers received encouragement and constructive words by the professional judges, Lynn Jordan, Daren Butler and Jesse Fernandez.

It was Alison Luff, a junior at Klein Collins, who won first place and $500, also securing the first spot for the 2007 FINAL competition! Sofia Buitrago, a Junior at Klein Forest and perhaps the “winningest” singer in the Young Voices of Houston competition, took second place and $300! Harry Perrin, a senior at Klein Collins, won $200 for third place in his dynamic return to the the YVOH stage for one last performance before he graduates. Once again, Klein ISD swept the finals!

The next semifinal is May 19th, and (as always) is open to ANYONE who wants to compete! Next year’s FINALS will be in early May, meaning we will have at least eight opportunities for all old and new contestants to give it a go. In fact, starting with the April semis, we will have a combination of audience and professional judges determine the monthly winners. Congrats to ALL ELEVEN! You made us proud!
